Hevy comes with various social features that allow you to engage with others, find inspiring athletes and gym-goers, get workout ideas, compare your performance, share routines and folders, upload gym selfies and training footage, and automatically post your workouts to Strava. Learn about these and other features below.
Social Feed/Home Tab
The home feed of the Hevy app is a social feed. Here you will be able to see the workouts users you follow have posted. You will be able to see the user who posted the workout, the title of the workout, the description (if a user made one), some workout stats and any photos they posted with their workout.
Below their workout, you will be able to see how many likes and comments the post has and you can leave your own comment by tapping the comment icon and then beginning to type where it says ‘Add a Comment’. You can share a hyperlink in the comments to direct users to interesting, funny, or educational content. You can also reply directly to other users’ comments to continue the conversation.
The Home tab also displays a horizontal carousel with suggested athletes. You can visit their profiles, tap to follow them, or remove them from your list.
To turn off the suggested athlete carousel, navigate to:
Profile tab > Settings gear icon on the top right > Privacy & Social under Preferences > Hide Suggested Users > toggle switch on
Important Note: Our support team cannot divulge how to appear in the Suggested Users section. This is not publicly available information to protect against spamming, etc.
Discover Section
If you tap the grey box that says Home at the top of the Home Page, you can select Discover, which will bring you to the discovery page. This section shows you popular shared workouts from users you do not follow from around the world.
The discover section is a great place to find inspiration for other users, and to connect with users’ you may not be following yet. You can save any of the workouts that you see as routines to use later or you can copy the workout so you can complete it on your own. This ia great way to try something new and to learn from other athletes. You can also tap someone’s username to access their profile and follow them.
Important Note: Our support team cannot divulge how to appear in the Discover Section. This is not publicly available information to protect against spamming, etc.
Athlete Workouts
You can tap any workout in the Home and Discover feed, as well as while looking through a user’s profile, to open it for more details.
You can see the muscle split, number and type of sets, exercises, weight, reps, RPE (if logged), duration, personal records, and the user’s exercise notes. You can also tap any of the exercises to see an overview and to compare your performance with the user who posted the workout.
You can also save the user’s workout as a routine or copy it to use as an active workout. You can do this by tapping the workout to view more details, then tapping the three dots in the top right corner, then selecting ‘Save as Routine’ or ‘Copy Workout’.
When you tap ‘Save as Routine’, you will be brought to a Routine creation page that has all of the exercises from the workout already populated, as well as the titles and the reps/weights. When you tap ‘Copy Workout’ it will bring you a live workout with all of the information from the workout you copied already populated (this includes exercises, weight and reps).
User Profiles
You can access other users’ profiles in many ways, including:
- Home tab
- The suggested athlete horizontal carousel in the Home tab (content feed)
- Discovery feed (Home > Home button > switch to Discover)
- Find people by username through the search field at the top of Home
Open another user’s profile to see their bio, the number of workouts, followers, and people followed, week-to-week activity on a graph, and uploaded photos and videos. Scroll through their media and tap on an image or video to see the corresponding workout.
Below their activity graph, you can tap Compare to see your stats side-by-side. These include your muscle split, number of workouts, time spent training, volume, and movements in common. We’ll discuss this feature in the next point.
Next, you can access the user’s saved routines, tap on any for details, and save the ones you like to your profile.
If someone has a private profile, you will need to send a follow request and be accepted to access all the information.
To set your profile to private, navigate to:
Profile tab > Settings gear icon on the top right > Privacy & Social > Private Profile > toggle on
Compare Performance and Stats
Hevy allows you to compare your exercise performance and workout stats (total workouts, training volume distribution displayed on a chart, overall training volume, and time spent training) with those of other users.
To access all the data, visit another user’s profile, tap Compare, and select to display information from the last 30 days, three months, year, or all time.
Under Exercises in Common, you can tap on any available movement to compare your performance to the other user.
Important Note: not all exercises can be compared, for now, most of the available exercises for comparison are Barbell exercises.
Leaderboards
In addition to comparing your performance with individual users, Hevy’s leaderboards rank your best lift on 38 exercises against your friends/followers.
Access leaderboards by navigating to the Profile tab, selecting Statistics, and scrolling down to Leaderboard Exercises.
Browse the activities and tap on any of them to see how you rank among your friends/followers.
For more details, tap on any person’s best performance to see the workout where they got their record.
Share Folders and Routines
You can share a routine outside of Hevy. This can be a big help for people who want to share their routines with a fitness coach who does not use Hevy Coach or with friends and family. You can share a routine by tapping the three dots in the top right corner of the routine, then tapping ‘Share Routine’. Once you do this, you can choose to share it via text, or social media, or you can copy the link and share it however you want later. The same thing can be done with Folders containing multiple routines. When you share a routine, you can also generate an image of the routines. You can share this image on forums, such as the Hevy subreddit, to gain feedback from other athletes.
The shared routines/folders can even be opened by people who do not have Hevy profiles yet.
Important Note: Shared routines will include the exercises, but the reps and weight will not be included. When you create your routine, you can tap on Reps and choose Rep Range. If you set a rep range, this rep range will be shared with the routine.
Upload Media
You can upload media to any workout before saving it to your profile. To do that:
Step 1: Log a workout in Hevy
Step 2: Tap the blue Finish button on the top right.
Step 3: Tap the Add a photo / video text. You can upload three photos or two photos and a video, and tap and drag to rearrange them.
Step 4: Tap the blue Save button at the top right to save the session and media to your profile.
Every Hevy user can see your uploaded media if your profile is public. However, only your followers will have access if your profile is private.
Social Media Shareables
When you save a workout, Heavy will display a horizontal carousel of different shareables that you can share to various social media platforms.
You can swipe through them to choose which shareable you would like to use. Some shareables will display your PRs, some will display workout details, others will include media that you uploaded along with your workout and one shareable will compare your total volume lifted to objects and animals of similar volumes! These can be a fun way of sharing your workout progress with people outside of Hevy.
You can choose whether you want these shareables to display with a dark, white, or transparent background.
Strava Integration
Hevy’s Strava integration allows you to share your gym workouts with your Strava followers automatically.
As you save a workout, Strava will send you a push notification to review and adjust the session before saving it to your feed. You can change the title and description, add a photo or video, change the display rules, and adjust details like the session’s duration and type.
To enable the integration, navigate to:
Profile > gear icon on the top right > Integrations (under Preferences) > Select Connect with Strava > Tap Authorize
