There are three types of bodyweight exercises:
- Bodyweight
- Assisted bodyweight
- Weighted bodyweight
This article explains all three types, how to log them in the app, which PRs they include, and when your bodyweight is added to volume calculations. At the end, you’ll also find two ways to add your bodyweight in the app for exercises that use it.
Important note: If you create a bodyweight exercise (bodyweight, assisted, or weighted) as a custom exercise, it will not add your bodyweight to the total volume. Bodyweight is only added when the exercise comes from the exercise library, and only for certain exercises that use your whole bodyweight.
1. Bodyweight exercises
Bodyweight exercises are strength movements that use your own body and gravity as resistance, with no equipment required. Often called callisthenics, they include exercises like push-ups, squats, lunges, and planks.
How to log and how it is calculated
If you’ve entered your bodyweight in the app, the app will use that value for exercises that rely on 100 percent of your bodyweight as resistance. For those movements, each rep counts your bodyweight toward the workout’s total volume.
Example: Pull ups
Reps completed: 10
Bodyweight: 100 kg
Set volume: 10 × 100 kg = 1000 kg
Exercises that use 100 percent of bodyweight in the app
- Pull up
- Chin up
- Dips
- Handstand push ups
PRs included
- Best sets
- Most session reps
2. Assisted bodyweight exercises
Assisted bodyweight exercises use support, such as bands, machines, or sturdy objects, to reduce the load. This makes challenging movements (for example pull ups, push ups, or dips) easier while you build strength and improve technique.
How to log and how it is calculated
If the exercise uses 100 percent of your bodyweight, the app will include bodyweight in volume and also subtract the amount of assistance.
Effective load = bodyweight − assistance
Example: Pull ups
Reps completed: 10
Bodyweight: 100 kg
Assistance: 10 kg
Effective load: 100 kg − 10 kg = 90 kg
Set volume: 10 × 90 kg = 900 kg
PRs included
- Most reps (set)
- Best total reps
3. Weighted bodyweight exercises
Weighted bodyweight exercises add external resistance, such as a weight plate or a weighted vest, on top of your bodyweight to make the movement more challenging.
How to log and how it is calculated
For exercises that use 100 percent of your bodyweight, the app will include your bodyweight and also add the extra weight you used.
Effective load = bodyweight + added weight
Example: Pull ups
Reps completed: 10
Bodyweight: 100 kg
Weight added: 10 kg
Effective load: 100 kg + 10 kg = 110 kg
Set volume: 10 × 90 kg = 1100 kg
PRs included
- Best set volume
- Heaviest weight
How to add your bodyweight in the app
Option 1: Add bodyweight in Measurements
- Go to the Profile tab
- Tap Measures
- Tap the + at the top of the screen
- Enter your weight (and any other measurements you want)
- Tap Save
Option 2: Log bodyweight during an active workout
- During a workout, tap the three dots on an exercise that uses 100 percent of your bodyweight
- Tap Update Bodyweight
- Enter the number
- Tap Log Bodyweight
