What Is a Weighted Bodyweight Exercise?
Weighted bodyweight exercises are strength-training movements that use your own body weight as resistance, with additional external load—such as a weight vest, dip belt, or backpack—to increase difficulty.
Weighted Bodyweight Exercises From the Library
When logging a weighted bodyweight exercise from the exercise library:
- Enter the added weight in the weight column
- Enter the number of reps performed
Important note: If an exercise uses 100% of your bodyweight (for example, pull-ups, chin-ups, or dips) and you have logged your bodyweight in the app, Hevy will calculate volume using:
Bodyweight + added weight
If an exercise only uses partial bodyweight (such as weighted sit-ups or push-ups), your bodyweight will not be included in total volume. Only the added weight will be counted.
Custom Weighted Bodyweight Exercises
To create a custom weighted bodyweight exercise:
- Create a new exercise
- Set the exercise type to Weighted bodyweight
- Add the remaining details and save
Important note: Custom weighted bodyweight exercises never include bodyweight in volume calculations. Only the added external weight will be counted.
