You can share workouts and routines from Hevy with friends, training partners, or coaches, including people who do not currently use the Hevy app.
This article explains the difference between sharing a workout and a routine, what information is included, and how to share each one.
Sharing a Routine vs Sharing a Workout
A routine is a workout template that you plan to complete in the future.
A workout is a completed training session that includes the exercises and sets you logged.
If you want to share a training plan with someone, share a routine. If you want to show someone what you completed during a training session, share a workout.
How to Share a Routine
To share a routine:
- Tap Workout at the bottom of the app.
- Find the routine you would like to share.
- Tap the three dots beside the routine.
- Tap Share Routine.
- Choose how and with whom you would like to share it.
What Is Included When Sharing a Routine?
When you share a routine, the exercises in the routine will be included.
However, your standard weight and rep values are not shared with the recipient. When the recipient opens or saves the shared routine, the weight and rep data shown will be based on their own previous exercise history, not the data of the person who shared the routine.
If you would like the recipient to see a planned rep target, you can set the exercise to use a Rep Range before sharing.
To set a rep range:
- Create or edit the routine.
- Tap Reps for the exercise.
- Select Rep Range from the dropdown.
- Enter the range you would like to use.
The rep range will then be included when the routine is shared.
How to Share a Workout
To share a completed workout:
- Tap Profile in the bottom-right corner of the app.
- Find the workout you would like to share.
- Open the workout.
- Tap the Share option.
- Choose how and with whom you would like to share it.
Sharing a workout is useful if you want to show someone the training session you completed, including your logged exercise information.
Can Someone Save My Shared Workout or Routine?
If the person receiving the shared content uses Hevy, they may be able to save the shared routine or workout information to their own account.
If they do not use Hevy, they can still open the shared content and view the information available through the shared link.
Sharing With a Coach
You can share individual workouts or routines with a coach, even if they do not use Hevy Coach.
This can be useful if you want your coach to:
- Review a completed workout
- See the exercises in a routine
- Check your training setup
- Give feedback on a specific session
If your coach needs a larger amount of your workout history, exporting your workout data may be more useful than sharing workouts individually.
Privacy When Sharing
Sharing a workout or routine directly makes that specific content available to the person who receives the shared link.
Your general profile privacy settings and directly sharing content are separate. If you do not want someone to access a specific workout or routine, avoid sharing that content with them.
Common Questions
Why are my weights and reps missing from a shared routine?
Your standard weight and rep values are not included when sharing a routine.
When the recipient opens or saves the shared routine, the weight and rep values shown are based on their own previous exercise history, rather than the values from the person who shared the routine.
If you want planned reps to appear, use the Rep Range option when creating or editing the routine.
Does someone need a Hevy account to view what I share?
No. Workouts and routines can be shared with people who do not currently use Hevy.
Users with Hevy may also have the option to save shared content to their own account.
Can I share a routine with my personal trainer?
Yes. You can share a routine directly with your trainer, including trainers who do not use Hevy Coach.
Can I share my entire workout history?
The sharing feature is designed for individual workouts and routines.
If you would like to share a larger amount of workout history, you can export your workout data from:
Profile > Settings > Export & Import Data > Export Data > Export Workouts
