In Hevy, you can import a CSV that has been directly exported from the Strong app.
In this article, we’ll cover how to import your Strong data, along with common questions and issues that may come up during the process.
Importing Data into Hevy
Hevy currently supports importing CSV files directly exported from the Strong app.
Before importing your Strong CSV
Before exporting your file from Strong, there are a few important things to check:
- The Strong app should be set to English before exporting your CSV.
- The CSV must be a direct export from Strong.
- All weight values should be in kilograms (kg).
We recommend changing Strong to English before exporting your data rather than manually translating or editing the CSV afterward.
How to import a Strong CSV
Follow these steps in the Hevy app:
Profile > Settings > Export & Import Data > Import Data > Import Strong CSV > Select File
Once you select your Strong CSV, Hevy will begin importing your workout history.
Are routines imported?
No. The Strong import currently imports workout history only.
Your routines from Strong will not be imported into Hevy and will need to be recreated separately.
How are weight units handled?
Weight values in the CSV should be in kilograms (kg).
Hevy reads the weight values in the imported CSV as kilograms. If your CSV contains values in pounds, Hevy may interpret those numbers as kilograms, which can result in incorrect weight values appearing in your workout history.
For the most accurate import, make sure your data is exported using kilograms before importing it into Hevy.
What happens if an exercise is not recognized?
If an exercise in your Strong CSV does not match a built-in Hevy exercise, Hevy will automatically create a custom exercise for it.
Because of this, you may notice new custom exercises on your account after completing the import.
Can I import another CSV later?
Only one CSV import can be active at a time.
If you need to import an updated or different CSV, you will first need to revert your previous import and then import the new file.
How to undo a Strong CSV import
To revert an import, return to the same import section in the Hevy app:
Profile > Settings > Export & Import Data > Import Data
If your Strong data was successfully imported, you should see an option to rollback/revert the import.
Use this option to remove the data added by the previous import.
If there is no rollback option, this generally means that no Strong import has been completed on the account.
What if my Strong CSV does not import correctly?
If your file is a direct export from Strong, the Strong app was set to English, and you are still experiencing an issue, please contact hello@hevyapp.com.
When contacting Support, include:
- The CSV file you are trying to import
- Screenshots of any error messages you see
- A description of what is happening
- Examples of any workouts, exercises, or weight values that imported incorrectly
For example, let us know whether the CSV will not import at all or whether the import completes but certain information appears incorrectly.
Our Support team can help troubleshoot direct Strong imports and identify potential bugs that may need to be passed along to our development team.
Can I import data from another app?
Hevy's built-in import feature officially supports direct CSV exports from Strong.
If you would like to import workout information from another app or source, our Support team can provide you with a sample CSV showing the Strong format so you can try formatting your data to match it.
Please keep in mind that manually created, edited, translated, or converted CSV files are not officially supported. While you can attempt to import a file using the Strong format, our Support team cannot edit or convert the CSV for you or troubleshoot issues with files that were not directly exported from Strong.
